ABOUT BROKEN MUSES An old saying states that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Nevertheless
I often ask myself who really defines the essence and substance of beauty.
Fashion and Zeitgeist force us to permanent replacements of old and used
things. In a nutshell everything old seems to be worthless. For me mannequins, statues, and other bizarre things are inspiring like
the muses from the Greek mythology—archaic goddesses but with an important
difference: They are made by people for people, sometimes not meant as artwork
but rather as objects of utility. Forgotten and fractured, they show a certain
form of timeless dignity—as broken muses. Take your time to browse through this site, have a look at the broken,
at crumbling colors, at splintered parts that may give you a short glimpse
on the impermanence and volatility of life. Gestures and expressions seem to survive: Restrained movement, gestures
in stone, pictures of fear and solitude. Which part is imagination and which
reality? And at what point is there only winking irony?
