Lady – South Africa

This South African waitress has impressed me in many ways. What you cannot see on the picture is the sheer discrepancy between her looks of a diva behind the pool bar of a five star hotel and the clumsiness of her guests in their shorts and sweaty t-shirts. I was amazed by her mere elegance, her appearance, her limber movements, her natural pride. A real lady wearing a hat - though everything is different from what it seems.

Brusselsrasta

I took this picture on a fruits and vegetable market in Brussels city center. Mother and daughter were shopping and obviously the child wanted some special fruits which the mother refused to buy. From one second to the other, the child was facing some form of apocalypse, consequently started crying, bemoaning her irreversible fate.

Gerhard – Yemen

I took this picture because it reminded me about pictures I’ve seen of my father’s best friend Gerhard at the age when he was a school kid. The resemblance was striking.
The boy was the son of a shopkeeper who sold rice, grains and spices in Yemen. Most probably the fly swatter was his only toy. Nevertheless he seemed to be most cheerful and comfortable playing self-contented in his father’s tiny shop.

Monitor – Sri Lanka

I am fascinated by Sri Lanka. In the elephant’s orphanage there were some school classes visiting and of course every school class had their "Monitor". The funny thing was that not only I was interested in taking pictures of the school kids but also they were interested in taking pictures of me – posing with them - and touching my white skin.
The girl on the picture caught my eye because of her stunning and beautiful features, her deep black eyes, amazing skin and hair. The only other thought that came to my mind was whether there wouldn’t be many more talented "monitor girls" who simply cannot go to school because their parents cannot afford the obligatory school uniforms?

Prince of Sana’a – Yemen

I was sitting in a tea shop in Sana’a after a stressful sightseeing and shopping tour in the Soukh. The young man was hidden behind a newspaper. I was curious and kept looking at him until he put it down. I discovered this amazing looks and furtively started flirting in a part of the world where this is not too common. He agreed to a picture – ad that is what you see here.
