OPENING SPEECH BY MARGIT BRANDL

ABOUT GEORG EISENMENGER

What can I tell you about George?

Born in Germany, he has always been interested in art. He even opened a gallery after finishing school.
After being trained as a carpenter he went to university to become an architect. After four years living and working in Spain with an architectural studio he was teaching at the University of Darmstadt. During this period but even more so after he had moved to Equator in 1999 he developed his particular style of painting. In 2003 he moved to Belgium where he is now living and working; since only recently in his new studio.

Since 1999 he has had exhibitions in Germany, Equador and Belgium.

What I find particularly interesting in his art is the way he sees his artwork himself. It is human beings abstracted to an extend that there are only forms, bodies, volumes left in space. These volumes interact and are shown in a particular moment in time, taking their room, their amount of space while being placed in a more or less obvious environment.

My personal favorite is “Hassle”, two pictures in beautiful shades of basically blue and red, the human being twisted, bend. I like the expression and whenever I look at it again gives me a reason to be stunned.

What is striking for me is the colors, the formats and the perspectives Georg uses. Perfection shows in the amount of abstraction that suggests a situation without telling too much. A recent cycle is around bodies bending, leaning backwards, forwards. They could easily go through as fingers, bending, wrapping but actually they aren’t. They interact and the rest is open for interpretation,

Exactly that is what you all should do now, look at Georg’s pictures, let them act upon you and let them tell you their stories.

I wish you a very pleasant evening!
