ABOUT MARGIT BRANDL The human being is in the focus of the work of both artists – so it was stated in the invitation you received to this opening. One thing is for sure, in the work of Margit Brandl exhibited tonight, we can always recognize a human figure. But it is obvious that we have two clearly marked series: In the room in the left we have pictures of the real persons, captured by Margit Brandl in different continents and cultures of this planet. Each one of these portraits have a specific story to them – as you can read in the leaflet offered tonight. This series actually was the starting point to the show we see here tonight. It has an astonishing effect to put these portraits in contrast to the series
of photographs showing broken mannequins or dolls in this room. These show
an image of human beings as well. In some of these pictures, through her choice
of light and angle Margit Brandl even manages to make them appear almost alive.
The expressions on their faces and their poses are far more perfect and ideal
than any human being could be. But still they are only artificial fake images
we are looking at. Although we have spoken now a lot about the human being and its representations
in the work of Margit Brandl, I would not like to reduce her work to this theme.
There is much more to see and a small glimpse of that as well as further detailed
information about her person and background can be found on her website which
is certainly worth a visit. To download the brochure, please click here. |
